Jewelry Repair

How many broken earrings and necklaces do you have in your jewelry box? Customers are always delighted to find out that they can also bring jewelry repairs to me. I hear a similar story almost every time about the disappointment of being told at a jewelry store that a jewelry repair couldn't be done, or wasn’t worth repairing.

That's where I come in. I have successfully been repairing jewelry for years, and have gotten pretty good at eyeballing the pieces I can fix, and those I can't. I tell customers right up front if I think the cost is overwhelming for the value of the piece, and offer alternative suggestions.  But I am also the person to come to if you do want that sentimental friendship ring you got at the carnival repaired. I give your piece of jewelry my best service, with the mutual knowledge that I cannot be a mind reader about how a piece may have been originally constructed, and therefore am not responsible for an unforeseen disaster. (I've never had one yet.)

Below is a partial list of prices, if you have a question about a repair contact me. Sending digital images is the most efficient way for me to give you an accurate estimate. (Helpful camera tips.) Turn around on repairs is three to four weeks. For information on shipping please go to the Orders page.

How to Determine Your Ring Size

1. Wrap a piece of paper around your finger. Make sure not to make it too snug, it has to slide over the knuckle.
2. Mark the point where the pieces of paper meet.
3. Measure the paper against a ruler.
4. Find your measurement on the chart below.

Some things to consider:
Wider rings need to be larger then narrow rings.
You fingers change size with the weather, they are smaller when they are cold.
Right-handed people have larger fingers on their right hand by about half a size.
As people get older the biggest issue is getting a ring over their knuckles.

Care Instructions for your Elizabeth R. Agte Jewelry.

Your piece of handcrafted jewelry by Elizabeth R. Agte will give you years of wearing pleasure with just a minimum of maintenance.
Use a soft cotton cloth to remove fingerprints, body oils and makeup from the piece before it is stored. Store individual pieces in separate plastic bags with tarnish resistant strips to keep them clean and free from scratches. Never carry jewelry unprotected in your purse.
A periodic cleaning with an old toothbrush and mild dish soap keeps your piece like new without stripping it of the antique patina. Make sure to dry completely with a soft cotton cloth. A can of compressed air comes in handy for hard to reach places.
Pieces that have gotten heavily tarnished can be cleaned with #000 steel wool, lightly “polishing” in a random pattern, taking care not to touch the stone. Since steel wool has oils in it, make sure to follow with soap and water, as above.
You may return your piece once a year for a free cleaning, all you pay for is the shipping.
